Mayhem’s Desire

(Operation Mayhem #2)
by Lindsay Cross

coffeesynopsisdHis traumatic past has left him dark… and longing for love.

Hicks thinks good and evil comes in black and white. No blurred lines, no grey areas. After being subjected to a horrific experiment that’s left him damaged as a super soldier, Hicks seeks comfort from his torment in reliability. He’s got clear rules on morality and isn’t willing to break them.

Until her.

Whitney is a seductress. Secretly working for a Senator as a mistress, she puts on leather outfits and a mask of sensuality to bend men to her will— though the money she makes doing so isn’t to save her, but others. Whitney believes she’s past saving, and that love is a silly dream.

Then he enters her life.

Hicks is sickened by what he thinks Whitney is— and undeniably attracted to her. After Whitney’s life is threatened in a violent murder attempt, Hicks calls in his team. Whitney is the target of a government operation, and unless Hicks can discover who’s behind it, Whitney’s life is forfeit.

But the mission isn’t the only thing on Hicks’ mind.

Whitney and Hicks can’t keep their hands off each other… but they can’t stand each other, either. Whitney isn’t the innocent woman Hicks thought, and Hicks isn’t the strong hero Whitney’s looking for. But together, the heat of their romance and the passion of their love cannot be stopped.

Can Hicks rescue Whitney from a tragic end? Or will the lovers lose everything against incredible odds?

thoughts-divider

Hicks’ tormented and abusive childhood made him the man that he was today. Ruthless, pensive, careful, determined, defiant and invincible. He’s a super soldier, enhanced and trained to fight for what is right and persecute those who have betrayed him and his brothers. But he wasn’t all that hard up. He also wanted to feel loved and fall in love. And just when he thought he could fall for their doctor’s sister, Whitney after rescuing her from an assassin, his heart got ripped out again when he learned what Whitney did for a living.

Whitney Averton had a heart of gold. She had always been caring and tending to other people’s needs. But she wasn’t the smart daughter that her parents aspired her to be. She may be working for a charitable cause, but they didn’t know the means she did to get the money. A job that involved a high profile senator and his eccentric needs.

Christopher Higginbotham (now that’s a mouthful of a name, isn’t it) aka Hicks is a man on a mission. But a little distraction along the way is welcome. But what if that distraction might just be the one to ruin him?

Incredible! I could not think of any other adjective right now, except INCREDIBLE! Mayhem’s Desire is another addition to Lindsay Cross’ Men of Mayhem series.and is incredibly good and I love it. The entire series just keeps getting better and better, badder and badder, deeper and deeper.

What made this book really good is the character development and the suspenseful storyline. There is growth and promise in every situation. The characters are ridiculously flawed but somehow, you can’t help but root for them. Lindsay Cross managed to keep the super soldier’s storyline going and in high momentum while each of them tackled their own story. Hicks and Whitney are the star of the story, but Reaper, Caroline and Doctor Averton are quite essential to the whole plot, thus making this series a highly anticipated read. Can’t wait to see what happens next to my favorite team of super enhanced men.

Review: The Chocolate Cure by Roxanne Snopek

The Chocolate Cure
(Love at the Chocolate Shop #4)
by Roxanne Snopek

No more chocolate! No more meddling! No more men!

New Year’s resolutions are great. Announcing them in a crowded bar, with a chocolate martini in her hand? Not Maddie Cash’s finest moment. It’s time this new realtor got serious about her life and this time, she means it.

But when hospital volunteering lands her at the bedside of bruised and battered Mick Meyer, who has no knowledge of Maddie’s reputation – and no memory of the kiss he begged from her during that long, pain-filled night, her best-laid plans are put in jeopardy. It’s not just his sweet tooth that’s tempting her.

The hunky bush pilot with the concussion has an old family property to unload. Making this sale could be Maddie’s professional salvation. But when Mick turns on the charm, she’s in danger of forgetting all her best intentions… on chocolate… on meddling… and especially on men.

Sure had lots of fun meeting the once privileged spoiled girl Maddie Chase and the daredevil pilot Mick Meyer in this deliciously sweet and sexy story, The Chocolate Cure. Loved the friendly banter between two strangers. Maddie as a volunteer in a hospital was a hoot with Mick struggling to keep sane despite all the drugs inside his body. The promise of never eating chocolate again (OMG, how could Maddie make such NY resolution?) and staying away from men or meddling with other people’s decisions proved to be quite a difficult feat for our female protagonist. Not to mention that one heady kiss that Mick totally forgot about.. Le Sigh…

Maybe it’s the chocolates, or the gorgeous men in the story, or Maddie’s knack for Prada and branded items, or the warm and friendly people of Marietta – these factors definitely made my reading fun and memorable. The Chocolate Cure is absolutely the cure to all my insanity issues. This is my first book by Roxanne Snopek and I am already in love.. Love the butterfly feelings I get while reading this book. I think I am in love!

Review: Swept Off My Feet by Ines Bautista-Yao

Swept Off My Feet
by Ines Bautista-Yao

Why my life sucks
by Geri Lazaro

1. My dad left when I was a kid.
2. My mom is in love (insert eye roll).
3. With a guy who is like 10 years younger than her!
4. My friends think he’s hot. (Gross)
5. I love ballet but our dance studio has a leak and we have to dance in this smelly studio that doubles as an aikido dojo.
6. There’s this Dojo guy who thinks the studio belongs to him.
7. Friends think Dojo guy is cute. (Ew.) (Okay, objectively maybe but still, ew.)
8. I’m failing algebra.
9. Need to quit either basketball or ballet. Or both.
10. Dojo guy keeps showing up! (Fine, he does aikido in the same building but whatever.)
11. Dojo guy is asking me to dance with him. And maybe he is as cute as my friends say.
12. I don’t know what to do anymore!

I love love love this new book by Ines B. Yao.. Mostly because, there’s a ballerina in the story. Just so you know, when I was in 2nd grade, my mom enrolled me in ballet, together with my twin cousins EdieLyn and MarieLyn. For three years, we danced and glided like swans, in allegro while in strict arabesque position wearing white tutus and pointe shoes. We performed in school and church events, and I always loved the feeling ballet entailed.

That’s why I felt a connection with Geri Lazaro, the main female character in the story. Aside from being a ballerina, Geri also played basketball in her school. And then, we share the same distaste in Algebra too. And oh, she and her mom loved listening to 90s songs and Alanis Morisette! Wow! I mean, how cool is that? I’d love to meet Geri Lazaro for real!

And mister Dojo guy also known as Bas is such a nice guy. There’s something about him that makes him endearing and charming, not just because of his looks and ridiculously tall appearance and affiliation with aikido. Bas is the kind of guy you’d want to know more, hate to disappoint, and love to be with everytime. Yes, he’s that kind of guy.

While both had family issues to deal with, they got this special kind of bond that appealed to readers like me.

Swept Off My Feet reminds me of one of my favorite dance movies of all time, Step Up (the one with Channing Tatum). I loved that movie but I think I love this book even more. I love all the characters and I love how I easily connected with all of them.  I love how Ines Yao brings out my cheesy side and how she effortlessly makes me grin with her stories. I would definitely have a smile on my face when I go to sleep tonight.

Review: Can’t Help Falling In Love by Bella Andre

Can’t Help Falling in Love
(San Francisco Sullivans #3)
by Bella Andre

Gabe Sullivan risks his life every day as a firefighter in San Francisco. But after learning a brutal lesson about professional boundaries, he knows better than to risk his heart to his fire victims ever again. Especially the brave mother and daughter he saved from a deadly apartment fire…and can’t stop thinking about.

Megan Harris knows she owes the heroic firefighter everything for running into a burning building to save her and her seven-year-old daughter. Everything except her heart. Because after losing her navy pilot husband five years ago, she has vowed to never suffer through loving – and losing – a man with a dangerous job again.

Only, when Gabe and Megan meet again and uncontrollable flames of desire ignite between them, how can he possibly ignore her courage, determination, and beauty? And how can she deny not only his strong bond with her daughter.but the way his sweetly sensual kisses are challenging her to risk everything she’s been guarding for so long?

This winter, if one – or both – of them aren’t careful, they just might end up falling in love.

An apartment fire almost cost the lives of single mom Megan and her daughter Summer, if not for the courage and sheer focus of Gabe Sullivan, firefighter extraordinaire. But Gabe didn’t want to credit everything to his job, because he had seen firsthand how Megan braved the fire and made sure her daughter could make it out alive. Both of them were heroes in their own rights, and that’s what made them more appealing to me.

Gabe had his Firefighter Dating rule – never date fire victims, especially the ones he helped rescued. One past experience had him burned so bad, now he was a little extra careful when it came to women. Megan had vowed never to date a man who could die anytime in his line of job. Her deceased husband would only remind her the perils and worries and heartaches she had previously experienced and would possibly feel once more. And then there’s Summer. She didn’t want her daughter to go through that again.

So far, Gabe is my favorite among the Sullivans.. I’ve got a soft spot for firefighters and single mothers, and most specially, to a cute little girl named Summer. I loved how their story slowly developed, started out as kindle and soon burned into a glowing fire and ended with a magnificent explosion of fireworks. Literally and figuratively. My heart warmed at the wonderful image these three characters painted – full of passion, caring, love and fire.

Trust Bella Andre to come up with a family that’s so easily loved and never easily forgotten. The stories just kept getting better and better. I’m glad I decided to continue with the Sullivan series, every member of the family was getting more delectable and admirable by the minute! (And yeah, just a question for Miss Andre, what’s up with the brothers and bath tubs, anyway? Seriously makes me want to get my own bathtub in my house, too!) Oh well, I just can’t help falling in love with this family, indeed!

Review: A Stone in the Sea by AL Jackson

A Stone in the Sea
(Bleeding Stars #1)
by A.L. Jackson

He wanted nothing at all…

Until he found she had everything to give…

Sunder lead singer and guitarist Sebastian Stone has everything—fans, fame, and fortune. He also has a heart full of bitterness and a reputation for a short-fused temper. But an outward reputation rarely reveals the true man inside. Facing assault charges after trying to protect his younger brother, Sebastian is sent to Savannah, Georgia to lie low until the dust settles in L.A.

Shea Bentley is beautiful, kind, and hiding from the very lifestyle Sebastian has always embraced.

When the mysterious, tattooed stranger begins hanging out at the bar where she works, Shea is quick to recognize he is nothing but trouble, but she’s helpless to the way her body lights up every time his intense gray eyes tangle with hers.

They both soon find themselves drowning in a sea of desire and passion that won’t let them up for air.

Sebastian knows firsthand secrets never die, and he’s not the only one who’s hiding them.

Loving someone always comes with a price. But will it be Shea’s past that costs them everything?

Sebastian from California is seeking refuge with his band mates in Savannah Georgia after an issue surrounding Sunder hits him. More commonly known as Baz, he tries his best to stay away from trouble by veering off the limelight. But as luck would have it, trouble follows him wherever he goes, and it’s in the form of a woman – young, beautiful and delicate Shea Bentley.. And a butterfly that wormed its way to his heart, cocooned his smiles and transformed his heart.

At first, I thought this was going to be another story about a guy picking up a girl in the bar, or a guy flirting with the waitress. Turns out, it was so much more than that and even darker, nastier, deeper.

In truth, I was probably lovesick of Baz following Shea and mooning over her and vice versa. But when the nasty things started to happen, I felt bad for the little butterfly who was innocently fluttering its wings but got sideswiped in its path.

The story was well written although I wasn’t really into those repetitive single word lines. Like,
Longer.
Longer.
Longer.

Forever.
Forever.
Forever.

So sorry to rant, but seriously, the story was already decent without those repetitions. But I have trust in AL Jackson’s writing and even though she made me cry and scream in frustration and anticipation at the ending,I am ready to get drowned. I am already falling for Baz, and I have already invested so much feelings for the little bug. I am not gonna hold back. Till I meet you again, butterfly!

Review: From This Moment On by Bella Andre

From This Moment On
(The Sullivans Book 2)
by Bella Andre

For thirty-six years, Marcus Sullivan has been the responsible older brother, stepping in to take care of his seven siblings after their father died when they were children. But when the perfectly ordered future he’s planned for himself turns out to be nothing but a lie, Marcus needs one reckless night to shake free from it all.

Nicola Harding is known throughout the world by only one name – Nico – for her catchy, sensual pop songs. Only, what no one knows about the twenty-five year old singer is that her sex-kitten image is totally false. After a terrible betrayal by a man who loved fame far more than he ever loved her, she vows not to let anyone else get close enough to find out who she really is…or hurt her again. Especially not the gorgeous stranger she meets at a nightclub, even though the hunger – and the sinful promises – in his dark eyes make her want to spill all her secrets.

One night is all Nicola and Marcus agree to share with each other. But nothing goes as they plan when instead of simply tangling limbs, they find a deeper connection than either of them could have anticipated. And even though they both try to fight it, growing emotions – and sizzling attraction – keep drawing them closer together. Close enough for them to wonder if stealing one more secret moment together can ever be enough?

I kinda like Marcus Sullivan, the winery owner, or the responsible one, I call him. For years after their father died, Marcus took on the patriarch role and had been there for his family whenever they needed him. I’m glad he finally found the time to look after his self.

When Marcus Sullivan discovered about his cheating ex-girlfriend, he thought a night out was alright to lose himself and be free for a moment. Until he met Nicola Harding, a young beautiful woman who easily captivated him. Little did he know that the girl he took home would just sleep off the night away. And he didn’t even had a clue about her profession at all.

So it was a big surprise when he finally discovered Nico, the alter ego of Nicola Harding, the superstar singer who lived in the lime light and subject of every paparazzi around the world. For a man who values his privacy, Nicola’s young age and celebrity status just made Marcus wary and looked more like a father figure with all the experience he’d been through. How would he deal with all those flashes of camera and stolen shots every single day?

I enjoyed reading From This Moment On. I thought Marcus indeed had a good head on his shoulders and admired him for everything he’d dome for his loved ones. I liked how Nicola stood out in her own way too, and that they both balance each other out. Second book of the Sullivans series and I think I am getting the hang of it. Those eight siblings were indeed a handful to Momma Mary Sullivan, but I think everyone turned out just fine. Can’t wait to read about Gabe’s story next!

THE LOOK OF LOVE

Chloe Peterson is having a bad night. A really bad night. The large bruise on her cheek can attest to that. And when her car skids off the side of a wet country road straight into a ditch, she’s convinced even the gorgeous guy who rescues her in the middle of the rain storm must be too good to be true. Or is he?

As a successful photographer who frequently travels around the world, Chase Sullivan has his pick of beautiful women, and whenever he’s home in San Francisco, one of his seven siblings is usually up for causing a little fun trouble. Chase thinks his life is great just as it is–until the night he finds Chloe and her totaled car on the side of the road in Napa Valley. Not only has he never met anyone so lovely, both inside and out, but he quickly realizes she has much bigger problems than her damaged car. Soon, he is willing to move mountains to love–and protect–her, but will she let him?

The three books in The Sullivan Series were all hot and heavy and highly erotic, leaving the reader gasping for breath and faster heartbeats. The whole Sullivan family is quite the rowdy but super loving bunch. The family matriarch has done a great job raising his sons and daughters despite not having her husband by her side.

Chase Sullivan, the photographer, found love under the rain after rescuing a damsel in distress. But Chloe’s not really a damsel waiting to be rescued,  she’s got a lot in her hands, bruised hands, and a lot more that she could do with it.

Marcus Sullivan, the winery owner, soon discovered about his cheating ex-girlfriend and finally met the one whom he could lose himself with after nearly a decade of taking care of his own family. But for a man who values his privac,  Nicola’s young age and celebrity status just made him wary and looked more like a father figure with all the experience he’d been through.

Gabe Sullivan was probably my favorite, for I have soft spot for firefighters. After saving a mother and her daughter in a fire, Gabe’s world was never the same again.

The Sullivan series is a great way to start meeting the family of 8 who all held great and noble jobs and had been raised by a mother with kindness and respect. Quite satisfied with how they all turned out and I already have my favorites among the brood. Of course, there’s something about the gorgeous men that really excited me, especially with the way they treat their female counterparts – loving, caring, passionate and burning!  I can’t wait to meet the rest of the Sullivan family!

Read an excerpt:

THE LOOK OF LOVE

Chase almost missed the flickering light off on the right side of the two-lane country road. In the past thirty minutes, he hadn’t passed a single car, because on a night like this, most sane Californians—who didn’t know the first thing about driving safely in inclement weather—stayed home.

Knowing better than to slam on the brakes—he wouldn’t be able to help whomever was stranded on the side of the road if he ended up stuck in the muddy ditch right next to them—Chase slowed down enough to see that there was definitely a vehicle stuck in the ditch.

He turned his brights on to see better in the pouring rain and realized there was a person walking along the edge of the road about a hundred yards up ahead. Obviously hearing his car approach, she turned to face him and he could see her long wet hair whipping around her shoulders in his headlights.

Wondering why she wasn’t just sitting in her car, dry and warm, calling Triple A and waiting for them to come save her, he pulled over to the edge of his lane and got out to try and help her. She was shivering as she watched him approach.

“Are you hurt?”

She covered her cheek with one hand, but shook her head. “No.”

He had to move closer to hear her over the sound of the water hitting the pavement in what were rapidly becoming hailstones. Even though he’d turned his headlights off, as his eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness, he was able to get a better look at her face.

Something inside of Chase’s chest clenched tight.

Despite the long, dark hair plastered to her head and chest, regardless of the fact that looking like a drowned rat wasn’t too far off the descriptive mark, her beauty stunned him.

In an instant, his photographer’s eye cataloged her features. Her mouth was a little too big, her eyes a little too wide-set on her face. She wasn’t even close to model thin, but given the way her T-shirt and jeans stuck to her skin, he could see that she wore her lush curves well. In the dark he couldn’t judge the exact color of her hair, but it looked like silk, perfectly smooth and straight where it lay over her breasts.

It wasn’t until Chase heard her say, “My car is definitely hurt, though,” that he realized he had completely lost the thread of what he’d come out here to do.

Knowing he’d been drinking her in like he was dying of thirst, he worked to recover his balance. He could already see he’d been right about her car. It didn’t take a mechanic like his brother, Zach, who owned an auto shop—more like forty, but Chase had stopped counting years ago—to see that her shitty hatchback was borderline totaled. Even if the front bumper wasn’t half smashed to pieces by the white farm fence she’d slid into, her bald tires weren’t going to get any traction on the mud. Not tonight, anyway.

If her car had been in a less precarious situation, he probably would have sent her to hang out in her car while he took care of getting it unstuck. But one of her back tires was hanging precariously over the edge of the ditch.

He jerked his thumb over his shoulder. “Get in my car. We can wait there for a tow truck.” He was vaguely aware of his words coming out like an order, but the hail was starting to sting, damn it. Both of them needed to get out of the rain before they froze.

But the woman didn’t move. Instead, she gave him a look that said he was a complete and utter nut-job.

“I’m not getting into your car.”

Realizing just how frightening it must be for a lone woman to end up stuck and alone in the middle of a dark road, Chase took a step back from her. He had to speak loudly enough for her to hear him over the hail.

“I’m not going to attack you. I swear I won’t do anything to hurt you.”

She all but flinched at the word attack and Chase’s radar started buzzing. He’d never been a magnet for troubled women, wasn’t the kind of guy who thrived on fixing wounded birds. But living with two sisters for so many years meant he could always tell when something was up.

And something was definitely up with this woman, beyond the fact that her car was half-stuck in a muddy ditch.

Wanting to make her feel safe, he held his hands up. “I swear on my father’s grave, I’m not going to hurt you. It’s okay to get into my car.” When she didn’t immediately say no again, he pressed his advantage with, “I just want to help you.” And he did. More than it made sense to want to help a stranger. “Please,” he said. “Let me help you.”

She stared at him for a long moment, hail hammering between them, around them, onto them. Chase found himself holding his breath, waiting for her decision. It shouldn’t matter to him what she decided.

But, for some strange reason, it did.
