Molly Dekker hates being the town charity case, but when her son Josh is seriously injured she has no choice. She lets her best friend organize a bachelor auction to help pay her massive bills and make Josh’s life more comfortable. She can’t bid on any of the men, but a surprise bidder gives her a gift she never expected: a date with the man who saved her son’s life—the only one she’s in danger of losing her heart to.

Former Air Force pararescueman Gabriel Morales made a career of flying to the rescue, until a tragic helicopter crash stole more than his livelihood. Being auctioned off like a slab of beef isn’t in his recovery plan. But one look, one touch and one night unlocking Molly’s pent-up passion makes him realize how badly he needs to be rescued…and how badly he wants to rescue Molly right back.

Will Molly and Gabriel’s never-quit attitude have them rushing head-first into love? Or will Gabriel’s secret pain stall their relationship before it can get off the ground?

‘Tis the last book in the Bachelor Auction Series, but this is definitely not the least. For what it’s worth, I believe Tule Publishing saved the best for last. I loved every chapter of this book!

One Night With Her Bachelor finally relates the story of Molly Dekker, the single mom of young boy Josh, who was almost buried alive in an accident while on a camping activity. Josh was the main reason why Lily Taylor had set up the Bachelor Auction bidding in Montana, to gather the eligible bachelors on one night, to help out with Josh’s health care and ever piling bills. Of course, the ever nice kindergarten teacher Molly doesn’t want to ask for money from anyone else, so Lily, her best friend comes up with the bidding idea.

Gabriel Morales, former Air Force, a wounded warrior and a recluse, was actually the one who helped saved Josh when the young boy fell on the mine shafts on that fateful camping day. He has lived alone in his cabin and didn’t like coming out at all, as his past kept haunting him. When Lily tells him that he’s one of the bachelors up for the bidding, I thought he was going to refuse and decline. I was ecstatic to learn that he has finally agreed and soon came out from his solitary, shaved his beard, cut his hair and looked every bit of a gentleman.

Of all the Bachelor books I’ve read in this series, I think this one by Kat Latham is my favorite. I enjoyed every minute of Molly, Gabriel and Josh. Theirs is a kind of family love like no other. The emotional build-up among the characters were quite intense, heart-breaking and sweet at the same time. I am a mother myself and seeing my children hurt equals to the whole world collapsing on me, that’s why I could very much relate to Molly with her passion to give everything to her child. (The only difference is I am happily married, so I have a strong support system). Molly finally finding Gabriel is such a reprieve. I really rooted for them. For me, they are perfect for each other and seeing them with their own happily ever after was enough to make me feel wonderful deep inside. I think, author Kat Latham has that effect on me with her books. So far, this is my favorite Bachelor story.

NOTE: I received this book as well as the rest of the Bachelor Auction series for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Throwback Thursday: Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Throwback Thursday is a new meme created by Renee of It’s Book Talk ( as her way of sharing some of her favorite oldies but goodies books that were published more than a year ago. I started joining last week and I loved the idea so I am participating again.

Today, it’s Agatha Christie’s turn for some mystery and suspense. Here’s one of my favorites from her Hercule Poirot series, Murder on the Orient Express.

Title: Murder on the Orient Express
Series: Hercule Poirot #10
Author: Agatha Christie

“The murderer is with us – on the train now…”

Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire Samuel Ratchett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. One of his fellow passengers must be the murderer.

Isolated by the storm and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must find the killer amongst a dozen of the dead man’s enemies, before the murderer decides to strike again…

I’ve read books featuring Orient Express, and I’ve always been intrigued with its reputation. The first time I heard about this was on the book, Dracula by Bram Stoker, if my memory serves me right, where Dracula escaped to Paris using the renowned train. When I got this book in College, I knew I had to read it because it involved murder and mystery and mayhem.

This had been one of my favorites from Agatha Christie. I liked Hercule Poirot not only for his wit but also for his abrasive personality. This dapper Belgian detective was quite a character, who had the audacity to refuse a certain malevolent millionaire Samuel Ratchett, simply because “I do not like your face, Mr. Ratchett,” he says. Ha! Burn!

I’m sorry if I seem to have enjoyed that particular scene, I was just amazed by Christie’s protagonist’s over-the-top personality. Well, of course, the dead man happened to also be a kidnapper, so I couldn’t blame Poirot if he wasn’t as enthusiastic as he was when he first met him.

Furthermore, the way Poirot handled the murder scene investigations was impressive and meticulous. He used his charm and wit to his advantage in order to solve the case. Every chapter, my guesses shift from one person to another, until that moment when it hit me, I never guessed the murderer correctly.

Overall, I thought this was a well-thought up mystery that only Agatha Christie could deliver. I wouldn’t get tired reading her books!

Jesse Grey, notorious bachelor and one of Seattle’s foremost construction tycoons, has been roped into participating in the Marietta Bachelor Auction thanks to an expertly executed guilt trip laid out by his family.

Michaela Townsend already has a fiancé and certainly doesn’t need another man in her life. So when her family buys her surly, sexy Jesse at the auction and wrangles him into driving her from Montana to Seattle, she’s appalled yet disturbingly attracted.

As far as Jesse is concerned, Michaela is forbidden fruit. Even though he knows her fiancé isn’t all he seems, Jesse would never take what didn’t belong to him. But how long can he resist the one woman he shouldn’t touch?

Michaela was engaged to be married and her relatives bought her a bridal shower gift she’d never forget. Her gift – was Jesse Grey, one of the bachelors from the recently concluded Bachelor Auction Bidding in Montana. Jesse was forced to join the bidding by his uncle and was attracted to Michaela but had to keep his distance knowing fully well that she’s about to be tied to someone else. Things were about to change when they got snowbound & stranded in hotel halfway to Seattle. A night that would awaken their desires & change their lives forever.

This had been a totally romantic read. Although at fist I was put off by Michaela’s blabbermouth, Jesse was there to sweeten the deal. He’s the perfect man to wake up Michaela from her nightmare of a fiance. I love these two characters. I liked that Michaela finally saw the light after getting engaged to one of the most abominable man I’ve read about. Jesse is her match and that’s the way it should be.  Their love story is beautiful and sizzling, something nice to read at night!

One more bachelor book to go!!

Review: What a Bachelor Needs (Bachelor Auction 4) by Kelly Hunter

Title: What a Bachelor Needs
(Montana Born Bachelor Auction #4)
Author: Kelly Hunter

Single mom Mardie Griffin has a run-down old house in need of fixing and a memory of Jett Casey as her saviour in a time of great need. So when her friends acquire Jett’s services at a bachelor auction and send him to fix up her house, she sets aside her mistrust of men and lets him in.

Elite athlete Jett Casey has the world at his feet and no desire for stability. But there’s one woman he’s never forgotten and if he can help make her safe this time, maybe she’ll stop haunting him.

No strings, no sex, no commitment. Just fix things. Surely it can’t be that difficult..

Jett Casey is a handyman and a famous ski athlete, and he’s a famewh0re. He likes the attention and the posse of women thrown at his feet. But he isn’t a playboy. He can have any girl he wants, but that’s not what he needs. His eyes and heart is recently captured by Mardie, a shaken and beat-up girl he helped in an alley a few years back.

Mardie, on the other hand, keeps her distance, knowing that Jett can tell anyone about what happened in her past. Their paths meet again during the Bachelor Auction Bidding, though this time, Mardie doesn’t bid for him but her friend Ella. All along, Ella intends to bid for the handyman so that she can throw him at Mardie and have him fix her dump house. Floors, carpets, walls, babyseats and kitchen later, they found themselves kissing and dreaming at the top of mountain slopes. Is there hope for Mardie for a second chance, knowing Jett’s only going to be with her in just a week?

Well, your guess is as good as mine.

I liked the story a lot. Although this was quite the typical trope, it still engages the reader to finish until the end. Kelly Hunter’s writing is eclectic, sweet and hot and easy to devour. The next thing I knew, I’m on the last chapter of the book and can feel my jaw hurting because of all the smiles I did while reading. There’s this one scene that really cracked me up; the one where Mardie’s father went on a surprise visit to her daughter, and Jett tries very hard to hide the fact that he spent the night in her bed.

And then, just when it couldn’t get any worse, he heard footsteps, followed by a sleepy voice coming from somewhere in the hallway.

“Jett Casey, there had better be coffee made and ready to drink in that kitchen, because I distinctly remember you saying something about sleeping in. You promised, when you woke me up with kisses at four am and we —” Mardie rounded the doorway, all sleep soft and disheveled, rubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand and wearing nothing but a watermelon-colored tank top and white panties.
She closed her eyes with a wince, and opened them as if this time the view would be different.
“He’s still there,” Jett offered helpfully.

That was totally humiliating (on Mardie’s part) yet I found it sweet and funny and cheesy. Ha Ha, I’m a goner! Can’t wait to read the next book!

Review: The Bachelor’s Baby (Bachelor Auction 3) by Dani Collins

Title: The Bachelor’s Baby
(Montana Born Bachelor Auction #3)
Author: Dani Collins

Your date with Bachelor #3 includes champagne and chocolate in the limo that collects you, a helicopter tour of Marietta and the surrounding mountains and valleys, and dinner at a five star restaurant in Great Falls. While oil baron Linc Brady wines and dines you, a main service will completely clean your home.

Who could resist this tempting offer, but Meg Canon plans to do just that. She is only home to clean out her childhood bedroom for her brother’s new step-daughter and then she’s outta her childhood small town and back to her life in Chicago, but when she meets the sexy, renegade millionaire while she’s stuck in the snow, sparks fly and Meg is tempted to maybe stay a little longer.

Linc Brady is new in town and happy to help a kid in need, but this? Technically he doesn’t owe Meg a damned thing after she bids on him, after setting him up for the Marietta bachelor auction in the first place, but her high-class city polish is his fatal weakness and makes her impossible to forget. When she agrees to come home with him, he makes it clear he’s a confirmed bachelor. This is a one-night thing. One night that turns into nine months and maybe a lifetime…?

Linc Brady thought the bidding for the Montana bachelor was a joke. He never wanted to be auctioned, he didn’t do this kind of thing. But Meg Canon was persistent, and boy was she lucky enough to win him on the bidding. It was supposed to be just one night with Meg. One night of lust and need.

And after that fateful evening, they both agreed that they wouldn’t do relationships. Meg went back to Chicago to live her life as a news anchor. Things turned sour when she learned that her jailed stalker posted bail, and on the same day, she discovered that she was pregnant. With Linc. She decided to go back to Montana, tell Linc about their situation and raise her kid. Unfortunately, Linc didn’t want anything to do with the baby. Oh Poor Meg.

I think I’ve said too much already, forgive me. But I wasn’t readily convinced about Linc and Meg’s chemistry. It was kind of a bit rush to me, Linc and his changing moods, Meg and her emotional outbursts. I can understand Meg’s condition though, and I felt her pain and apprehensions about raising a kid without a father, when she herself didn’t have the luxury of having a mother the moment she was born. Linc, well, he’s unlike the other bachelors I read, he was a little too intimidating for my taste.

The bed scenes, however, were hot hot hot! And I liked that the story was fast-paced too. Wasn’t too boring and didn’t dwell too much on one subject alone. A lovely one-night read!

When Dr. Rachel Cassidy comes back to Marietta with a broken heart and a divorce under her belt, going to a Bachelor Auction fund-raiser doesn’t sound like her idea of a good time – and when her sister and friends “buy” her a dinner date with sexy Parisian-trained pastry chef Ryan Henderson, that sounds even worse.

Ryan doesn’t have time for dating – he’s put his dreams to one side and come back to Marietta to look after his sick grandmother. But when he agrees to help a charity fundraiser by offering to cook a special meal to one lucky bidder, he gets more than he bargains for and discovers a woman he might just dare to let himself fall in love with.

Then tragedy strikes, just when Rachel and Ryan think they might have a future, opening up old scars and pushing them apart.

And if they’re to stand a chance of getting back together, then Ryan’s going to have to be seriously inventive. Can he win the love of his life with ten cakes?

I can’t believe I’m now on book 2. Let’s all meet Chef Ryan, a successful pastry chef, whose sweet confections was “almost better than sex”.

Ryan didn’t want to fall in love; he didn’t believe in dating, and heck, he even didn’t have time to even find the one for him. All he cared about was his grandmother Phyllis, who had stood by him since childhood when he lost his mom and dad in an accident. When his last relationship failed, he vowed to focus all his energy and attention to his ailing grandmother.

Meanwhile, Dr. Rachel Cassidy was back to her hometown after an unsuccessful married life. People at Marietta looked down at her after her divorce; they thought she would never find a man again who’d take her seriously nor love her because her attention is all on her books. Sometimes, she thought, all those hurtful rumors might just be true.

Until the night of Bachelor Auction bidding, when somebody else bid for Ryan but Dr. Rachel Cassidy ended up with him.

These two lonely and brokenhearted souls found each other. Then came the dates, the cakes, the flowers, the sweets, the affection, the emotions. When Grandma Phyllis’s delicate condition worsened, things started to get sour between the lovers. Would there ever be a sweet ending for them at all?

I thought I liked Beau & Lily’s story in the first Bachelor Auction series. Turns out, I was wrong. I think I like Rachel & Ryan’s story better, because theirs was lighter, sweet and mushy and fun. There was an instant attraction between them, but both were afraid to take the plunge, so they decided to test the waters and waddle slowly. I liked that kind of relationship, not pushing too much, not expecting too much. Not too sweet, not too sour, not too bland; just perfect!

Review: Bound to the Bachelor by Sarah Mayberry (Bachelor Auction 1)

This is part of my new Complete-A-Series Challenge. I hope to get to finish all six books in one week.

Wish me luck!

Lily Taylor knows Beau Bennett dislikes her, but that won’t stop her from asking him to volunteer for the Bachelor Auction she’s organized to help her friend Molly provide for her tragically injured son, Josh. If Beau’s gorgeous face, piercing blue eyes and chiseled body inspires the women of Marietta to dig into their pockets for a good cause, then Lily will do whatever it takes to secure his participation.

Beau Bennett isn’t sure how he wound up on the auction block being eyed up by hundreds of eager women, but he knows who to blame for it – Lily Taylor, the sexy, distracting, off-limits best friend of his kid sister. As far as he’s concerned, the sooner this nightmare is over, the better.

The last thing either of them expects is for Lily to wind up bidding on – and winning – Beau, or that their date will lead to Beau stepping in to save Lily when her past comes back to haunt her. As Beau does his best to keep Lily safe, they discover that maybe they don’t dislike each other quite as much as they thought.

In fact, maybe it’s just the opposite…

You’re in an auction, and you have ten grand somewhere in your pocket, would you bid for the most beautiful girl that you see?

Bound to the Bachelor is the first book in the Montana Born Bachelor Auction series. Lily Taylor asked Beau Bennett, as well as other hot bachelors of Marietta, to participate in a Bachelor Auction, to raise funds for their friend, Molly & son Josh who was recently involved in a tragic accident. Long before this auction bid took place, Lily & Beau had tried really hard to get away from each other. I basically didn’t really know what made Beau dislike Lily so much; is it just because she’s got the notorious reputation of being a stripper/exotic lap dancer once? I say, he was quite judgmental if that was his reason for avoiding her. But as the story progressed, we learned the real reason why Beau couldn’t trust his heart to be near her.

On the other hand, Lily’s past was catching up on her, haunting and taunting her, ultimately putting her life in danger. An inheritance of some sort, amounting to ten thousand dollars, shook up Lily’s nerves, and brought about the memories of her past. To get away from it all, she decided to use the money to bid on Beau Bennett. And their lives took a spin from thereon.

Loved this book by Sarah Mayberry. The author knew how to make readers swoon for the guy and cry with the girl. This book melts my heart, Lily & Beau have the perfect chemistry. Although their instant love connection and profession of love at the end of the book was too soon, I still liked that “having butterflies in my stomach” feeling after reading their book.
