Review: Falling For the Fake Fiance by Jennifer Blackwood

Falling for the Fake Fiance

(Snowpocalypse #2)
by Jennifer Blackwood

Jill Michaels prides herself on one thing: being independent. That is until her daughter gets into an elite school, and she needs money more than ever. It seems her fairy godmother—aka her deceased Grammy—has granted that wish in the form of one-fourth of her estate. The only catch? She must be married by her thirtieth birthday. In two months.

Aaron Collins is fresh out of the army and back in town to help his father’s failing business. When he runs into Jill at a hotel where she’s attending a single’s mixer, he makes sure she doesn’t make it past his room and into another guy’s arms. When he hears about her predicament, he has a plan: they’ll get married and keep it a secret. And maybe have a little sexy fun until he leave towns for his new job.

But letting go of the woman of his dreams may be harder than Aaron could have ever imagined.

This is oohhh la la.. Oh yeah, that’s what I said after reading this book and Jennifer Blackwell is just to be blamed. Although we’ve all heard about pretend lovers falling in love, might sound cliche and all that, but I still  went for this story and I loved it! I’d never settle for just one night with Aaron Collins if I were Jill Michaels. Ha!

Single mom Jill was still in mourning over the loss of her dear grandmother. But Grammy seemed to be still in control of Jill’s love life when she decided to bequeath 1/4 of her estate, provided that Jill get married before she reached her 30th birthday. I bet Grammy was rolling in her grave, laughing and dancing when her will was read. Her timing was impeccable, too, as Jill’s daughter successfully got listed to an elite school, and whether she liked it or not, she really had to find that perfect fiance before her inheritance got poof!

Fortunately, her old schoolmate slash next door neighbor Aaron Collins was back in town after his military services. When her friends Mia and Kate set her up with Mr. Hottie, it was just a matter of time before they left each other breathless with kisses. Dayum!

A secret wedding was supposedly the plan, but everything changed when the matters got out of hand. Fake fiances or not, this whirlwind romance got me and had me falling in love all over again.

I remember reading one of Jennifer Blackwell’s books a couple of years ago and admired her writing. Now, after devouring this latest book in less than a day, I can say I admire and adore her even more. Blackwell had me giggling and gawking and getting googly-eyed most of the time. And yes, sighing and covering my mouth and closing my eyes a few times, trying to suppress my grin when reading those steamy scenes. More than steamy actually – it was fiery!

Overall, Aaron and Jill had that explosive chemistry that I like in a story. I expect much more sexy stories from Miss Blackwell soon and I’m sure she won’t disappoint.

Review: Untapped by Weston Parker

Untapped
by Weston Parker

Some desires are better left uncovered…

Erik Bertinelli is the son of the vilest mob boss in all of New York’s underbelly. He’s the enforcer, the hitman for the syndicate, and the type of guy who doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty. His hideaway is as unconventional as they come… the New York Public Library.

With a thirst for knowledge and a grand getaway at his fingertips, he loses himself daily in the dusty tales of old. Life is too f*cked up most days of the week. Peace would be beyond welcomed.

Grace Adams desires more than anything to live fully alive, and yet, she’s doing just the opposite of that. She’s a librarian at the New York Public Library and spends her days wishing like hell that she could disappear into one of the romance novels she reads.

With an imagination that would shock her family and friends, she keeps to herself and lives in the colorful parts of her mind – alone.

Untapped.

When the same deliciously dangerous alpha male keeps showing up between the bookshelves, her daydreams quickly dive into passion that feels too good to be true. The kind that could burn anyone involved. The kind she would do anything for. Maybe even kill…

This has been a really nerve-wracking read, dynamic action erotic drama that would have your heart pumping like crazy. I cannot explicitly describe how this book got me hook from start to finish. It took me a lot of willpower to get away from this book. Seriously.

The main male protagonist isn’t the kind of book boyfriend you would want to admire nor get involved with. A member of a Mafia clan, ruthless, deadly, monstrous, that’s Erik Bertinelli for you. But Grace Adams wasn’t at all perturbed by such characteristics. Dressed like an old librarian should be, Grace captured the eyes and heart of the Mafia assassin and it was just a matter of time before he defied all odds and put a bullet to the one that made him suffer his whole life.

Erik and Grace’s relationship was doomed right from the beginning. The head of the Mafia made sure of that. It was really a surprise to me that I ended up liking the story, given the fact that I am really not into organized crime stories. Well, the only other crime syndicate novel I’ve read before was TOXIC, which was the first book in this same series. {Reviewed here}.. The brutality of Mafia and all other syndicates oftentimes scared me. But Weston Parker made this story quite fascinating and mind-blowing. I was shocked when I got to finish reading the book in one night.  Now I cannot wait to read what happens next to the doomed lovers! Yay!

Review: Love in Lingerie by Alessandra Torre

Love in Lingerie
by Alessandra Torre

I hired her to fix my company, to bring Marks Lingerie back to life. I didn’t expect her to become my friend. I didn’t expect to fall in love with her.

The first rule of business is to never touch your employees. I think there is another rule about not falling for your best friend—a rule against imagining the curves of her body, or the way her breathing would change if I pulled down her panties and unzipped my pants.

Now, I can’t wait any longer. I’m tossing out the rules.

Damn the company.
Damn our friendship.
Damn my fears.

This has been so tantalizingly sexy, deliciously funny, definitely hot and sexy.

Kate Martin is looking for a job after feeling so under-appreciated in the lingerie company she’d been working at. She met Trey Marks, dashingly handsome and rich and hot. She can think of so many things to do with the man, but she isn’t one to misbehave herself, especially after getting engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Craig.

Well, she isn’t going anywhere whether she likes it or not, because if there’s one rule that Trey Marks religiously implements and follows, that is not to get associated with his co-worker, no commitments, no touch, no feels. Even if Kate Martin happened to be the woman who rocks his world.

Trey Marks isn’t the kind of man I’d want to consider as a book boyfriend, what with all his crazy and naughty ideas and kinks, but Kate Martin sure is the one that has slayed him. Props to this feisty girl who had full control of herself even if she really wants to get a taste of her boss the moment she sees him. Took them years and years – that’s long enough to do the inevitable, that was quite painfully slow if you were to ask me.

But when the love was consumed, everything around them burned and exploded. This is quite a shocking and aggressive read. My first Alessandra Torre book and this won’t definitely be the last.

Review: Breaking the Rules by Ali Parker

Breaking the Rules
The Rules Series 3
by Ali Parker

Dr. Kendal Tarrington has a deep hole to dig himself out of. His current lover looked so much like his last one because they’re related. He’s going to need to break the rules if he expects his relationship with Dana to take center stage in his life. With as badly as he wants love, there shouldn’t be anything he’s not willing to do to get it.

They say everything that’s forbidden to you is really sweet. And breaking the rules is just as delicious as a treat. Professor Kendal Tarrington had been burned when he fell for his student years ago. And now, history seemed to be repeating itself, with him again falling in love, this time with the sister of the girl he once broke the rules for.

And so Kendal was once again reeling from another broken heart.

I love how this series has ended. Teacher-Student relationship has always been frowned upon. A lot of you would tell me that kind of relationship is taboo and naturally a grave situation that must be dealt with seriously. But I’d like to believe that everyone has a right to fall in love with the one that their heart desires. There are those who really deserve a chance to cultivate that kind of relationship. I was happy with this story because Kendall proved he was someone who stood by his choice and didn’t step on one’s toes. I liked that Dana proved that she was worth the wait.

And I love that feeling of mushyness and awesomeness whenever I finish a series by Ali Parker. She never fails to surprise and amuse me. She always delivers the best stories.

Review: The Art of Catching a Greek Billionaire by Marian Tee

The Art of Catching a Greek Billionaire
(Greek Billionaire #1)
by Marian Tee

Once upon a time, there was an ordinary girl who grew up listening to bedtime stories where there were no knights in shining armor or Prince Charming. Instead, it had Greek billionaires and this little girl dreamt she’d one day have Her Own Greek Billionaire to live happily ever after with.

When this little girl grew up, she did what she could to make her dream come true.

This is my story.

I mean your story.

I mean, Mairi Tanner’s story.

Mairi Tanner had dreamed of marrying a Greek billionaire for as long as she could remember. But bagging one was next to impossible especially when there were mean girls that were out to quash her dream.

When the ripe time came for him to meet the Greek billionaire she’d been waiting for, it was only a matter of time before she got another Greek falling for her. And her life would never be the same again.

I enjoyed reading this book. Finally I know now how Mairi and Damen Laventis had met and stirred the flames that engulfed their love story. It was really interesting and rather fascinating to see a woman live up her dreams and never let anything destroy it. I’d say, Mairi did a great job catching not only one but two billionaires. Lucky you Ms.Yay!

As always Marian Tee delivered another exciting series that makes women weak in their knees, sweat trickle down their necks and gasp for breath. Those are definitely a Marian Tee guarantee.

Review: Play (Stage Dive 2) by Kylie Scott

Play (Stage Dive #2)
by Kylie Scott

Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl.

Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

OMG!!!

Hot damn! This was so good, I couldn’t put this book down! Mal and his crazy antics would be the death of me. And I don’t blame him if I’d die laughing with him right now. Seriously.

Kylie Scott continues to rock my world with her awesome Stage Dive stories. I thought David Ferris was already a cool dude in the first book, Lick. Until I got a glimpse of one of his bandmates, Malcolm Ericson. Oh man, this guy stood out and stood loud and proud. A certified hottie, I must add.

In this second book, PLAY, Mal is an enigma. Seriously, this talented drummer is so good with his hands, and mouth. He is the life of the party and when he speaks, everyone listens. And gets mesmerized.

No wonder Anne Rollins can’t stop gazing at him with her crazy eyes. This poor gal has been cheated by her roommate who took off without paying her debts to her. Badly needing help with her housing predicament, she soon agrees to Mal’s offer and the two lovers are inseparable ever since.

Life with Mal Ericson is full of fun and excitement and laughter. I wish I was in Anne’s shoes, spending the night with him and shouting expletives and what not just to piss off the other couple next door with his crazy antics. Oh god, Anne and Mal’s pretend bed moments were really hilarious! They even broke the bed by just screaming! How much more if they give in to their carnal needs. Seriously, this book is everything!

I dunno how to proceed with my review without revealing the rest of the story, so I gotta stop now. So far, Mal Ericson is my book boyfriend of the month, and I intend to enjoy each and everyday with him. Gosh, Kylie Scott, you are making a fool of me, but I like it! Yay!

OMG… I didn’t know that the book, PLAY was published exactly 3 years ago. Is this just a coincidence, or what? I really didn’t know about this, but let just say, Happy Birthday PLAY and MAL Ericson!

Review: Relentless River by Lindsay Cross

Relentless River (Men of Mercy #10)
by Lindsay Cross

He was Ice.

Sheriff Bo Lawson was everything a retired Marine Special Operations Operator should be. Cold. Calculating. Calm in all situations. He handled terrorists and too drunk locals without blinking, until a couple of dead bodies show up in his small town, throwing his controlled environment into chaos.

She was fire.

Cheri Boudreaux, manager of the local bar, lives her life by one rule – work hard and play harder. The last thing she needs is a repeat of her father: a strict stick-in-the-mud unable to veer from the rules. Then she meets Bo, a walking, talking sex god in uniform and her preconceived notions incinerate.

Ice meets fire.

Bo craves order. He craves control. He craves a red head with a wild streak wider than the Mississippi. She is everything he despises, but can’t get off his mind. So, when Cheri needs help, he wants to be her knight in shining armor.

Threatened by a deadly foe neither of them could predict, Bo and Cheri clash in an uncontrollable inferno. When the truth is revealed, their world falls apart – can they find the strength to fight for each other or will their newfound love fall under a relentless tide of evil?

There’s another dead body found in Mercy, and Sheriff Bo Lawson vowed to put a stop to it. A former Marine Special Operations Operator, Bo had it bad when he blamed himself for his team’s death. Now he would do everything to catch the criminal threatening his town. Even if his lady love was involved.

Cheri Boudreaux managed a local bar that was always a target for trouble. She’s got men vying for her attention, but her sight was only focused on one man alone. Cheri was a tempest, with a dark family secret. Seriously, this woman could do all things to Bo, seduce him, stimulate him, antagonize him. And in all those attempts, she always succeeded. Except that one time when she got shot by a bullet and her cousin was pursued by a cunning murderer.

So far, the last book I’ve read in the Men of Mercy series was Revenge River, and boy it was action-packed and marvelous. Nightshade and Merc left a lasting impression on me. So when I learned about the release of Relentless River, I didn’t have second thoughts reading it.

And I wasn’t disappointed at all. Lindsay Cross still has it, ten books and counting!

I loved Sheriff Bo’s character. He was indeed relentless but Cheri had full control of him. Bo and his uptight demeanor towards Cheri made him more irresistible like a pint of ice cream under a hot sunny day. Lickable!

The drug-related issues and murders were really the main focus of the story and I liked that it was tackled at length throughout the book. Now the erotic scenes between the characters, though, hmm, those were something else. Definitely hot and spicy!

Looking forward to reading more of these Men of Mercy in the next months to come. Can’t wait to meet Riser’s match!
