Review: Commander-in-Chief by Katy Evans

Commander in Chief (White House #2)
by Katy Evans

We fell in love during the campaign.
The stakes were high.
Reputations could have been ruined.
Scandal hovered over us like a cloud.
Now the man I love is the President of the United States of America.
And its not my vote he is after.
He wants it all.
My heart. My body. My soul.
He wants me by his side.
In the White House.
Normalcy will be gone from my life, privacy forgotten.
I am only twenty three. I just wanted to play a part in history. But it seems like history wasn’t done with me. The part where I lost my heart to Matthew Hamilton? It was only the beginning…

Matthew Hamilton is now the President of the United States, but his heart is forlorn knowing that the one he truly loves and cares about is not around him anymore. He misses Charlotte a lot but he knows that there are consequences if he continues his pursuit. He made a promise to himself never to jeopardize his family’s safety with his new political status. But as soon as he sets his eyes on her again, he breaks his promise and decides to pursue Charlotte at all cost.

Katy Evans made this sequel more pleasurable to read, what with all the exciting stuffs the President and his First Lady had done and achieved. I liked how the lives of President Matt and Charlotte were narrated and executed, making them feel more realistic than fictional to me. I learned one thing or two about being in the White House and the responsibilities of the most powerful man had to endure during his term.

I liked how the mystery of his father’s death was uncovered, too, although I thought it was lacking and missing some important details. I guess I was looking forward to more action and suspense, not the domesticated life of Matt and Charlotte inside the White House. Having babies and attending luncheons weren’t quite as exciting as the political issues that the Commander in Chief had to face.

Overall, I thought this was the way happy endings should end in a political romance. Maybe there’d be a book about Matt Jr in the near future?
