Coming in from the Cold (Gravity #1)
by Sarina Bowen
He can’t have her. And he can’t tell anyone why.
Ski racer Dane “Danger” Hollister does not do relationships, though he keeps his reason a secret. The real-life curse he’s inherited from his mother will eventually cost him everything: his place on the Olympic ski team, his endorsement income, and his ability to fly downhill at top speed.
Reluctant country girl Willow Reade meets Dane by accident. Literally. Her skidding truck forces him off the road during a blizzard. Stranded together in his Jeep as night falls, the two loneliest people in Vermont find themselves sharing more than they’d planned. And not just conversation.
Yet neither can guess how their unlikely tryst will threaten Dane’s frightening secret and Willow’s tentative peace with her own choices. Only mutual trust and understanding can end their pain and give them a hard won shot at love.
Willow Reade’s life seemed to go through a series of unfortunate events and her unlucky streak doesn’t stop yet. Abandoned since she was a child, left heart broken by the man she followed through the cold mountains of Vermont, no permanent job to hang on to, not enough to pay the rent. Well, there were chickens that keep her occupied though..
Until that one fateful snow-stormy night.. When she spent the cold in the arms of a man she didn’t know, a man whose name is Danger, a man who vowed never to fall in love nor get involved in a relationship, as long as he lived. Because downhill ski racer Dane Danger Hollister believed that his life would soon be over even before it began.
Despite the kinda cliche’ storyline, I still enjoyed and devoured every page of this book. It didn’t matter how others have easily predicted the end of the story, what mattered was how this book made me stayed put and continued reading until the end. There are stories that make you say “uh-oh.. I’ve read this already..” but for this Sarina Bowen classic, I just couldn’t put it down. I need to know what happened next, what Willow would do once she knew Dane’s secret, and what Dane would do once he knew the ultimate truth.
Overall, I loved this book, the characters, the complications and angst and transformation and the awesome bed/jeep scenes. Everything was just how I wanted it to be. Would definitely recommend this to everyone who wants a short, sweet, steamy love story!
