Denial (Careless Whispers, #1)
by Lisa Renee Jones
Ella Ferguson awakes alone in Italy, unsure of who she is, and a gorgeous man has claimed her as his own. He’s tall, dark, and sexy, with money and power, the kind of man who makes a girl want to be possessed. And he does possess her, whispering wicked wonderful promises to her, stealing her trust and her heart. Soon though, the past finds her, yanking her from a cocoon of passion and safety. Everything is not how it seems. The truth will shatter her world, but it can set her free, if it doesn’t destroy her first.
Ella Ferguson’s memories were lost the moment she woke up. In a hospital. In Italy. With a beautiful stranger at the foot of her bed.
As much as she tried to connect to her past, she couldn’t, because she didn’t even know her name. How and why she ended up mugged and hospitalized in Italy was beyond her. Why a beautiful man saved her and registered her under a fake name, she also had a hard time comprehending. Why was she told that she was involved with a mobster, an Italian Mafia? And how come this beautiful man felt so familiar to her, yet she was also sure she hadn’t seen her in her life, ever? Could she trust her instincts, or the man who saved her?
So many questions, so many people involved, so little time to get all the answers. Despite the warning bells, Ella decided to side with Kayden Wilkens, even when the police was hot on his trail. And why was Detective Gallo so mad at him in the first place? Ella needed to know the answers, she needed to get her memories, but she was also afraid to discover the truth.
I’ve read some of Lisa Renee Jones’ books and her expertise on romantic suspense continues to astonish me. After a few pages in, I was already hooked with Ella and her lost memories, with Kayden and his mysterious minions, with Nathan, the Underground doctor and so much more. Even the Italian mafia interests me. I can’t still shake the feeling that Kayden’s involvement with Ella is much deeper than what he was telling. Sure, he intended to protect her at all times, but what if Ella need to protect herself from him? I need to get to the root of all these, just as much as Ella, and I couldn’t wait to read more!
Denial will have you turning the pages incessantly, have your heart beating with anticipation and mind boggling due to all the mysteries surrounding characters. I’m telling you, this is also deliciously good!
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
