Review: Devious Minds by Colleen Helme

Devious Minds (Shelby Nichols #8)
by Colleen Helme

officialsynopIt’s been almost a year since a near-fatal gunshot wound left Shelby Nichols with the ability to read minds. In that time she’s faced one problem after another. She’s been shot at, framed for murder, and targeted by a serial killer, just to name a few. Now she’s trying to help her lawyer husband win a murder trial that will enable him to become a partner in his law firm. Sounds easy, right? But nothing ever goes as planned when it comes to Shelby Nichols.

When special agent, Blake Beauchaine, shows up to collect a debt from Shelby, things get even more complicated, and Shelby is soon on her way to Paris. A routine meeting with a rogue agent reveals a sinister plot, putting Shelby into the cross-hairs of a known terrorist. Even worse, she doesn’t speak French, so it seems her mind-reading abilities won’t help her this time.

Things go from bad to downright dangerous for Shelby, especially since her usual guardians, Uncle Joey, and his hit-man, Ramos, are back in the states. Lost and on her own in the streets of Paris, can Shelby escape the cold-blooded killer in time to stop his devious plans, or will this be the end of the line for Shelby Nichols?

A rich wife was accused of killing her husband shortly after their altercation regarding a third party named Aphrodite. It looked like the woman was guilty, especially when all suspicions were directly point at her. She needed a lawyer to prove her innocence, and it seemed like she found the right people for the job,

Lawyer Cris Nichols was ready to defend her, and his wife was more than willing to help in the case. She’s a mind reader and she often went to great length to help out the ones who needed her so-called premonitions. Even though her husband found her mind-reading ability irksome and annoying sometimes, he knew Shelby was his lucky charm. Why, she had helped him a lot with his investigations and had won court trials in a short period of time. Now that he’s a candidate for partnership in his law firm, he was fortunate to have her by his side, even on the other side of the world… like Paris.

Ahh, beautiful, enigmatic, alluring Paris, France. I would love to go there someday so I can mark off my second dream destination in my bucket list. (My number 1 dream place is Japan!) What a nice vacation and experience would that be! But Shelby wasn’t there for fun and relaxation. She was there to help the man who almost put Uncle Joe to jail, and to stop a possible terrorist from destroying the world.

I loved Shelby. I’ve seen her grow, from the first time she had her mind power until she crossed danger which involved assassins and FBI agents. Now she’s back with Cris, Ramos and Blake and I couldn’t count the number of times she almost met her death. She’s had her hands full, I give her that, but she’s one hilarious and feisty mama one shouldn’t dare to cross. (Although I didn’t like the part that she’s got the hots for Uncle Joe’s bodyguard.. ahem)

Colleen Helme continues to write interesting plots involving Shelby and I ain’t complaining. I thought she’s such a great writer, to be able to come up with exciting new stories every time she release a book. Helme still surprises me after all these time. She’s incredible. I would be watching out for the 9th Shelby Nichol’s story, that’s for sure!
