Maid for Love (A Romantic Comedy Novella)
by Caroline Mickelson
Despite the fact that her love life is a disastrous mess, Zoe Watson’s cleaning service, Maid for Love, is enjoying record profits. Her crew handles the removal of household dust and clutter, leaving Zoe free to use her special gift for memory alteration to erase her client’s painful memories. But although she can wipe the slate clean for clients, she’s had far less luck erasing the thoughts of her ex-boyfriend, Michael Archer, from her own heart.
So when she runs into Michael, and suspects he might remember her after all, she decides the best way to keep her heart safe is to get close enough to him to modify his memory, without breaking her heart. Or getting caught.
★★★★☆ : Great! I liked this book!
Zoe’s house cleaning service is thriving and she’s got a number of seemingly satisfied clients already. You see, Zoe not only helps in making sure that her client’s house is spic and span, she also helps people forget painful, sad and bad memories. For example, if a certain husband does something unforgivable and is caught by his wife, he tells Zoe about this and asks her to make her wife forget whatever she learns about him. So far so good, most clients seem to move on with their lives without memories of their unwarranted past.
You know how this happens? Well, Zoe comes from a family gifted with different special abilities. Like for example, when her mom was younger, she could read everyone’s thoughts. These gifts intensify and continue to work as long as they’re not yet married. Zoe is great with her gifts, she even used it on her ex-boyfriend, Michael. She told him to forget all about meeting her and then she removed all his thoughts about them when they broke up a year ago.
Until they meet again. Zoe is still mesmerized by Michael’s gorgeousness, but she thinks Michael never knew or met her, so she pretends they don’t know each other. Little does she know that Michael remembers everything about her and could never forget her, his great love, the one that got away. Wondering why Zoe pretends not knowing him, he continues with their unspoken charade and also acts as if he doesn’t know her. Will they ever settle their differences in the end?
This is a love story with a paranormal twist. While there are no otherworldly creatures or magical characters, you’ll get a kick out of Zoe’s mind-altering ability. It was too good to be true. The other characters were also fun and likable, even her always-meddling mother was someone you’d root for. I think this is the only book I’ve read that doesn’t have any evil villains!
This is a cute 45-minute read that is sure to make you forget about your problems, even for a little while.
