Review: Brilliant Disguise by Mary Anne Edwards

Brilliant Disguise: A Charlie McClung Mystery
The Charlie McClung Mysteries Book 1
by Mary Anne Edwards

Detective Charlie McClung no longer finds his job fulfilling and has given up finding that “someone” his granny promised he would find. So he leaves behind the big city and his close-knit family and takes a job in a small town police department in Georgia, resigned to live a quiet life in solitude.

Things change when he meets Marian Selby while investigating the mysterious death of her best friend. But Marian swore never to love again after the death of her husband 11 years ago. What seems to be a suicide turns into a tangled web of deceit, corruption, and complicated shadows.

Can the two of them come to grips with their feelings for each other before the killer closes in on them?

★★★★★: Awesome!!! I really loved this book! (Highly recommended)

Marian Selby heard yelling and a gunshot next door, prompting her to run and see what may have become of her good friend and neighbor, Dianne. What she saw shocked her and suddenly brought out the past that haunted her. Death.

Detective Charlie McClung responded to the situation but was only informed that it was a suicide case. Charlie, being the new “fish” in the area after having moved into town two months ago, believed that there was a cover-up with the case. Marian Selby told him she personally knew the victim and that she would never take her own life. So something was definitely wrong in the scenario. Together, they worked to find out the truth and bring justice to Diane’s murder.

Mysteries, suspense and thrillers have always been one of my favorite genre. And I love a good mystery when I feel a little down. This one from Mary Anne Edwards really perked me up right from the start. It made me stayed up at night until I get to the bottom of the case and rightly guessed the suspects.

Brilliant Disguised is really good! The characters are appealing, the plot was feasible, the pace was quick and the author was brilliant! This is the first of Mary Anne Edwards’ work that I’ve read, and I am sure this won’t be the last.
