Review: Paranormalcy

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy # 1) by Kiersten White Hardcover, 335 pages

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours. But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures. So much for normal.

Within 24 hours, I was able to finish reading this young adult fantasy book and I was impressed. It’s fast-paced, quite funky and definitely hilarious. It’s a whole lot of fun. It’s like I was reading Kiersten’s blog instead of actually reading a book and that makes it unique and exciting.

Evie or Evelyn, lived and worked for the International Paranormal Containment Agency (IPCA). It’s quite a place to stay for an 8-year old. She grew up there until her teens and had a mermaid named Lish for a bestfriend. Evie can see through supernatural glamours (or mask) used by paranormals (read: vampires, werewolves, gnomes, fairies, etc).

One fateful day she captured a shapeshifting young man, aptly named Lend. He told Eve what she’d been missing all her life. Raquel, her guardian was adamant to take her away from him, much to Eve’s dismay. Paranormalcy is an amazing book. It had me at hello! From the first vampire encounter to the last werewolf standing, I knew this would be my latest series addiction. Kiersten White’s writing is brilliant, I can hardly stop myself from laughing out loud and giggling and gasping and snorting (ugh, my bad!) It’s got a lot of bleeping scenes!

I very much liked Evie – the pretty pink girl with a pink Taser and pink hair and pink whatsoever, addicted to high school dramas on television. (Easton Heights – I think more like Gossip Girl drama). Since she first saw Lend, she got instantly attracted to him, just because he was bleeping gorgeous. He’s nothing like bad fairy boy Reth, and he’s everything Evie liked in a guy. I liked that it’s a super fast read, even though the swearing is all bleeped.

I can’t wait to read the next book – Supernaturally!

Hi! I’m the New York Times best-selling author of Paranormalcy and Supernaturally. I also give the most awkward hugs in the world. You should probably opt for one of my books over one of my hugs, but then again, maybe you like awkward hugs. As for me, I like writing flirting scenes, and fighting scenes, and sometimes I write scenes that fall somewhere in between the two, but only if I can’t avoid it. Website:
