Book Review: The Juice Of Life

The Juice Of Life
by Assaf Marcus

This inspiring fable tells the story of juiceoflife The Juice of Life, in which the Lion arranges an exciting meeting for all the animals. At this meeting, he presents them with a very interesting life lesson.

Why did the Lion arrange the meeting?
Does the juice of life taste as good as it smells?
What is the Lion planning to say?
Will the Lion’s message change the lives of the animals?
One of the toughest places to combat excessive consumerism is with today’s children. Advertisers spend millions of dollars and employ teams of child psychologists to convince our children to constantly want and collect more stuff. Some youth advertisers actually call parents “gatekeepers”, whom they must circumvent to reach the kids. Of course we’re gatekeepers! We’re parents! It’s our job to protect and nurture, to help our children grow into healthy, confident, and caring adults. Fortunately, there are many ways to do this, even in our materialistic culture. One important way is through education.

Once again, children’s book author Assaf Marcus has written a story that is equipped with lessons and values. The Juice of Life is a story about a lion who was having a juice party with his animal friends. Each and everyone were given cups to be filled with juice. Most of them however, chose the cups that looked beautiful, bigger, more colorful and visually captivating. The rest, however, were disappointed with the cups that were left for them.

The Lion had alluded the animals with choiced cups to being materialistic. He pointed out that those who picked up the nicest looking ups tend to put value to objects based on their outer appearance, instead of what is seen inside. This lesson is similar to the very famous quote, “Do not judge the book by its cover.” Most of the time, we only see the surface, what is outside, what is beautiful in our eyes. But the truth is, there is much more than meets the eye, we only see as much as one allows us to see. It is what’s underneath that is important. It is what is inside the cup that matters most. The wise Lion imparted the message that the juice inside the cup is the one that must be celebrated because it is the one that bring nourishment to life.

I really liked this book. It’s not only an ordinary bedtime story but it is a story that teaches lesson to children and adults alike.
